Chamber of Commerce Criticizes CNTE Blockades at Shopping Malls

The President of the National Business, Services and Tourism Confederation (Concanaco-Servytur) Enrique Solana Sentíes, spoke out against the National Education Workers Coordinator (CNTE)’s ongoing blockades at shopping malls. He demanded that the law be enforced immediately, considering the teachers union is occupying private property. He said the blockades damage Mexican society economically and in the tourism industry.

Solana Sentíes said that the union’s actions could not be allowed to continue. Small and medium-sized business owners have already criticized the teachers’ actions and he says the union has changed its strategy to focus on big businesses, specifically internationally-owned businesses. He criticized this change in the teachers’ strategy, which he said would provoke xenophobic and reactionary attitudes and social conflict.
