Businesses Protest CNTE Blockades

Teachers affiliated with Section 22 of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), representing teachers in Oaxaca, continue blockades in shopping malls, supermarkets and other establishments in the city of Oaxaca as part of protests against the Education Reform. In response to the CNTE’s disruptions, more than 3,000 businesses and public transportation services have temporarily shut down.

The protests, on the part of the Oaxacan businesses, aimed to bring attention to the loss of profits that have been caused by the protests, blockages and strikes of the CNTE.

It is unclear how long the teacher blockages will last. However, some speculate that they could continue until the CNTE’s state assembly, which takes place next weekend.
