Gov. Roberto Borge Angulo attended a panel for the National Tourism Forum where they discussed how to strengthen tourist destinations.

The Secretary of Tourism, Enrique de la Madrid Cordero; the mayor of Mexico City, Miguel Ángel Mancera; the governor of Puebla, Rafael Moreno Valle; and the governor of Yucatán, Rolando Zapata Bello also participated in the event, in which Borge Angulo talked about how tourists are distributed in Quintana Roo.

“Quintana Roo has some of the most important tourist destinations in Latin America. We receive 15.6 million visitors from all over the world,” he said

The governor said that international tourism is very important to Quintana Roo’s market, with the United States being the country that contributes most to their tourism profits.

“It is important to remember that our second biggest market is national tourism,” Borge Angulo added saying that more than 3 million Mexicans visited Cancun in 2015. He said that this sector has an 11 percent annual growth rate.

Borge Angulo said that he hopes to strengthen regional tourism and that his goal for 2016 is to increase national and international flights by 10 percent.
