Barrales Magdaleno: Federal Government, PRI Fending Off Opposition Front

PRD president Alejandra Barrales Magdaleno (L) speaks to PAN member Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares at the inauguration of PRD's Plenary Reunion, Tuesday, August 29, 2017

Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) president Alejandra Barrales Magdaleno denounced the accusations against National Action Party (PAN) president Ricardo Anaya Cortés, claiming them to be an attempt by the Federal Government and the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) to thwart strength of the PAN-PRD alliance leading to the 2018 presidential election.

Barrales Magdaleno said that the formation of the alliance would oppose the political interests of many, so all sorts of attacks are to be expected. “We’ll be seeing attacks and disqualifications; we’ll be seeing efforts to stop the Front from crystalizing. But PRD will uphold the Front’s formation this Sunday, and we hope that PAN and Citizen Movement do the same,” she said.

Barrales Magdaleno also stated she wasn’t happy with Raúl Cervantes Andrade being named prosecutor general and demanded that government authorities stop using federal institutions to perpetuate their opposition.

When asked about the alleged talks that PRD has been holding with Ricardo Monreal Ávila on whether he’ll be the party’s candidate for Mexico City mayor, she said the party talks to anyone who favors the formation of the Wide Opposition Front (PAN-PRD alliance).
