The director of the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred), Carlos Valdés, announced that after the quake on Thursday night, a 7.2-magnitude replica could occur in Mexico City.
After the 8.2 degrees Richter earthquake was registered at 11:49 p.m. on Thursday, with an epicenter in the area of Pijijiapan, Chiapas, the federal official said that 16 people have been killed.

He pointed out in an interview on a morning news show, that the strongest damage occurred in Oaxaca and that until 7:15 a.m. on Friday, 185 aftershocks were counted, of which 12 were greater than 5.0 degrees.
Valdés recommended that people review their electrical, gas and water installations in their homes and offices, and be prepared for possible seismic events that could occur in the next few hours.
