Another Mayor Killed, This Time in Puebla

José Santa María Savala, Mayor of Huehuentlán el Grande, Puebla, was killed inside his vehicle early Tuesday morning. There are currently no known motives for the crime, which is the latest in a string of murdered town mayors in Mexico.

The body was found on the outskirts of the San Augustín Huacatlán settlement, along the Valsequillo-Tecali highway. According to early police reports, María Savala was in a truck and four used cartridges were found at the scene, which were collected as evidence.

In September 2015, the mayor’s home was robbed and assailants beat him. One million pesos ($52,831) in cash was robbed. The Puebla Attorney General has not made a statement.
