José Manuel Mireles will remain in prison

Activist José Manuel Mireles’ lawyer Ignacio Mendoza said that the Interior Secretariat (Segob) informed him that Mireles will be transferred from Hermosillo to Nayarit. This was announced a few days before a Michoacán self-defense paramilitary group of 70 people are set to be released, although not the one that Mireles is part of.

Mireles will remain in prison. However, after signing documents in Uruapan, the next step will be for Mireles to get released. Mendoza explained that the government’s decision is in response to a request that the prisoner be transferred to Michoacán. However, Mendoza explained that there is not enough space to move him at this moment.

He believes that José Manuel Mireles will soon be returning to Michoacán. However, the transfer has yet to happen.
