Activist Javier Sicilia warned that without their intervention the bodies would have been moved and due process violated

After a meeting with Attorney General Arely Gómez González, representatives from social organizations and human rights advocates gave a statement on the case of the clandestine graves located in the community of Tetelcingo, in the municipality of Cuautla, State of Morelos.

They declared that, if signed agreements were not fulfilled by May 18, they would open the graves to start the process of analyzing the 148 bodies with the support of forensics experts from the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos.

During a press conference, Javier Sicilia, the coordinator of the Movement for Peace, Justice and Dignity, said that, with agreements having been reached, the identification of the bodies must start so they may be returned to their family members.

“This has to be solved this week and, if not, we have warned that in the name of reason and legitimacy we will undertake civil disobedience and intervene the graves with the experts from the university.”

Sicilia pointed out that federal agencies had to be reached so that the due process was followed and the necessary investigations undertaken.

“That is why we are appealing here, they wanted to get there first, exhume the bodies without the participation of the victims, without the participation of the university, without the participation of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) or the Human Rights Commission or the Commission of Care for Victims, and simply make the bodies disappear, change them from this grave to a niche, to a legal graveyard.”
