THURSDAY

To all coffee lovers and connoisseurs: heads up. Expo Café is celebrating it’s twentieth anniversary at Mexico City’s WTC, bringing together members of the coffee business as well as experts, enthusiasts and those curious enough to venture into the search for new tastes. The expo will be a three-day event featuring workshops, conferences and — of course — tasting booths. Expo Café starts this Thursday and will continue until Saturday September 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with an entry cost of 160 pesos. The cost covers access for a single day only, but you can pay 260 pesos for a three-day access ticket. You can also pre-register here and pay 130 pesos for a single-day ticket.

If you’re studying a foreign language, Cultuur Cafe’s Language Exchange should be a great opportunity to hone your skills. The gathering will happen at Doméstico, in Condesa, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. You’ll get a chance to talk to native speakers of Spanish, English, German, French and other languages. Attendees are encouraged to stay and hang out after the event is officially over. Cost of entry: 40 pesos.

FRIDAY

Fridays nights don’t have to be wild and frenetic. It’s OK to chill on Friday nights, right? What better way to do so than with an evening of good jazz? Tlalpan’s Museum of Time is hosting saxophone player and singer Siddartha Olague for one of its Terraza Jazz Evenings. Siddartha will play his own set, but later he’ll be playing requests from attendees. The jazzing starts at 8:30 p.m. Entry costs 100 pesos or you can pay 299 pesos for a special package that includes a glass of Spanish red wine, Centenario tequila and a guided tour through the museum, among other treats. Space is very limited, though; only 40 spots are available. So if you’re interested, you better secure your spot by calling 5513-3310 or 5513-2175.

If you prefer a wilder setting, perhaps you might be interested in visiting El rincón vikingo, a two-floored pub with wooden tables, barrel-looking beer mugs and all sorts of viking paraphernalia. The pub is holding a party to celebrate its first anniversary this Friday. Beer, food, bagpipes, beer, mead, viking music and more beer will be part of the celebration. There’s no cost for entry; you pay for what you eat and drink. The party starts at 4:00 p.m.

SATURDAY

Japanese film director Hayao Miyazaki’s animation masterpiece “Howl’s Moving Castle” remains one of the most beloved animated films of all time among fans and critics. Saturday will provide a chance to experience it in a slightly different manner. “Howl’s Moving Castle” will be projected at Silvia Pinal Theatre with a live performance of its soundtrack by Mexico City’s Metropolitan Philharmonic Orchestra. Projection starts at 3:00 p.m. Entry tickets cost 450 pesos in section 2 and 560 in section 1 of the theatre.

Spending a Saturday in an old theatre might not be your thing, though. If that’s the case, you can spend the evening taking a walk and maybe a bite — or two — at the Food Truck & Design Fair. There’ll be food, live music, a playground for the kids and even old-school arcade machines for the nostalgia-hungry. The fair is pet and bike friendly, so bring your ride and/or pet friends. And if you don’t have a pet friend of your own, you might be going home with one of the several that will be up for adoption at the fair. The event will take place at the Mexico Elementary Institute from 11:00 a.m. onwards.

SUNDAY

The movie “King Kong” is over 80 years-old, its legacy still stands. To celebrate, the Antique Toy Museum (MUJAM) is hosting an exhibition with old movie posters, comic books, toys and all sorts of memorabilia bearing the figure of the giant ape. Movie buffs and pop culture enthusiasts are sure to enjoy themselves in presence of the trail left by the king of apes in our collective memory. MUJAM opens Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Entry cost is only 75 pesos. And if for some reason you miss Kong this weekend, there’s no need to worry. The exhibition will remain until November 25.

This one goes for all pet lovers: Wild Live will host Croque-Fest, a concert in benefit of the Corazones con Patitas animal shelter. There’ll be food — hamburgers, fries, wings — as well as craft beet. Roella, Luis P11 and Tercerapersona are scheduled to play live. The concert starts at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. It’ll be a family friendly environment, so you can bring your kids. There’s no fixed cost for entry; you can either bring a bag of pet food or make a donation at the entrance.

OTHER EVENTS

Semana IR is a series of concerts to happen at the Foro IndieRocks! concert hall to celebrate indie rock. The first concert took place on Tuesday, but you’re still in time to catch up from Thursday through Saturday. Dead Meadow and Terror Cósmico will play Thursday; Austra and DATA Friday; Digitalism and Mylko Saturday. Tickets can be bought at the offices of Foro IndieRocks! and at La Roma Records. Single-day access costs 400 pesos, except for Sunday, which costs 650 pesos.
