Sonido Confirmación: ‘You Request, We Confirm’

That is Sonido Confirmación. Living up to their motto, a musical “ask and you shall receive” is all about pleasing their audiences. Forget about reproachful side-eyes from the dj or waiting forever to hear only half a minute of your favorite song, the guys from Confirmación will not only play it, they will dedicate it especially for you. Heart emoji times ten.

Sonido Confirmación is made up of Daniel Alvarado Chávez, Rex Bantron a.k.a APC/2k, and Marco Aviña from Mexico. Mateo Rivano a.k.a Barba Roja and Lorenzo Maznah represent Colombia. The crew was intrigued and motivated by the staples of  sonidero parties, such as the language and dress codes endemic to Mexico City, and so the project started recording podcasts in 2010, and achieved its full sound and visual identity in July 2011.

Aided by the power and might of Afro-Caribbean music, Confirmación — as any well-respected sonidero –have played the mandatory party combo of weddings, birthdays and quinceañeras. However, their special blend of wit and aesthetics has earned them a place in the cultural and contemporary art scene. To them, the most important thing about the scene is creating an environment of respect to foster music and dancing in order to contribute and build in to the city’s identity.

Listening to Sonido Confirmación is like going to that legendary party your older cousins always talked about. Yes, every time. It’s not about who’s there, but the fact that you are there that makes it so unique. That’s how their greetings — trademark feature of sonideros — make you feel. Everyone is welcome and everyone is catered to. On top of that add an amazing collection of tropical tracks from the ’50s to today: you might have danced longer before, but never happier.

In an interview with The News, Confirmación told us about the first sonidero party they attended, back in 2009 in the Azcapotzalco borough of Mexico City.

“It was a Christmas Party, we were lucky enough to see the show by Sonido Súper Dengue in the Cosmopolita neighborhood.”

When asked about the coolest greeting they were asked to deliver, they gave us this jewel: “I don’t want smokes and I don’t want pot, all I ask is that you say hello to my lot.”

To get a feel of what Sonido Confirmación is all about, they recommended this song especially for you.
