APPS & BOTS

Here at The News we strive to bring you all the latest in technology. In the past weeks we’ve brought a lot of projects related to staying home. Watching TV, podcasting and of course writing can all be done from the comfort of your own home, without even having to leave your room or your bed. That is not the cast for this next subject. After all the Fitbit is an activity tracker and definitely works best when there’s some activities to be done.

Say you want to start measuring your activity but there are so many choices to choose from, well here at the News we can break it down for you. We can tell which Fitbit is right for you.

On the current roster there are currently six wristbands (the Fitbit Flex 2, Alta, Alta HR, Charge 2, Surge & Blaze) and two clip-on types (Fitbit Zip and One). We’re going to disregard the latter two as they offer less features.

Flex 2 and Alta: More fashionable but don’t come with an altimeter, heart rate monitor or multi-sport functions, and those are the features one looks for in an activity tracker. Although the Flex 2 is the only one that is water resistant so if you’re looking for that quality the Flex 2 is your choice.

The other models are the most advanced but also the most expensive, we’ll leave you with a run-through of their basic features and let you decide.

Alta HR: Battery of up to 7 days, Alarm, Heart Monitor, Multi-Sport Tracking, when connected to a smartphone has Caller ID. Also features Sleep Tracking (and Sleep Stages) Available colors: Black, Blue Gray, Fuchsia or Cora for the Classic band, Lavender, Indigo or Brown for leather, and Stainless Steel or Gold-Plated.

Charge 2: Battery of up to 5 days, Altimeter, Alarm, Heart Monitor (with additional Cardio Fitness), Multi-Sport Tracking, when connected to a smartphone has Caller ID. Also features Sleep Tracking (Relaxed Guided Breathing and Sleep Stages). Available colors: Lavender, Indigo or Brown for the Classic band mode, Special Edition: Lavender/Rose Gold and Black; and Luxe Leather in Brown, Blush Pink and Indigo.

Blaze: Battery of up to 5 days, Altimeter, Alarm, Heart Monitor (with additional Cardio Fitness), Multi-Sport Tracking, when connected to a smartphone has Caller ID & Ability to control music. Also features Sleep Tracking (Relaxed Guided Breathing and Sleep Stages). Available Colors: Black, Blue or Plum for Classic Band, Black, Camel or Mist Grey for leather and Stainless Steel.

Surge: Battery of up to 5 days, Altimeter, Alarm, Heart Monitor, Multi-Sport Tracking, when connected to a smartphone has Caller ID & Ability to control music and has GPS even without a smartphone linked. Available Colors: Black, Blue and Tangerine.
