Inflation in the first half of February came closest to reaching a record high for the past year, showing an increase of 2.94 percent, according to a report by the National Statistics and Geography Institute (INEGI).

Since January 2015, the increase in consumer prices has remained above the average, with reductions that gave a record low rate of 2.13, but so far this year this percentage has begun to make an upward trend.

During 2015, the rise in prices oscillated between 2.4 and 2.1 percent, nonetheless what we’ve seen so far for this year, percentages have begun to have a tendency to rise.

From the close of January to the beginning of February, the non-comestible goods showed a rise of .57, an annual average of 3.111 percent. During the same period in 2015 the increment was 2.26.

“We conclude that the transfer of the kind of change to the prices begins to be more evident than that which came to be last year,” said an analysis done by Ve por más.

In its breakdown by product, Inegi notes that the prices of some vegetables were influenced in large part by inflationary movement, highlighting the chayote and the Serrano chile which rose by 27 and 25 units, respectively.

In respect to clothes, shoes, health, furniture and house items, they had the highest rises of the 15 day period.

Meanwhile, prices of green tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, transportation and communications fell.
