Gulf Cartel Leader ‘El Toñín’ Arrested

TIJUANA, BAJA CALIFORNIA, 25SEPTIEMBRE2015.- Elementos de la Procuraduría General de la República (PGR) en coordinación con el Ejercito Mexicano catearon una vivienda ubicada en la privada Trípoli del fraccionamiento Santa Fe Quinta Sección, donde lograron asegurar una indeterminada cantidad de droga, se presume que son dos toneladas de marihuana. The head of the Gulf Cartel, Antonio Haro Rodríguez, also known as ‘El Toñín,’ has been arrested in an operation by the armed forces of Mexico.

The Gulf Cartel has been the most prominent drug trafficking organization in the Gulf of Mexico and on the east coast for decades.

The operation took place in Tamaulipas and Veracruz and was carried out by a coalition of federal forces, including the Intelligence Division of the Federal Police, the Marines, the Attorney General’s Office and the National Defense Secretariat. Eloy Fernando del Ángel Hernandes and Omnar García Torres were also arrested in the raid.

Haro Rodríguez was in charge of directing criminal activities along the coast and in the Gulf of Mexico between Southern Tamaulipas and Pánuco, Veracruz.
