The Natural Resources and Environment Secretariat (Semarnat) published a call for entries to receive the Recognition for Environmental Excellence, directed at companies with outstanding environmental records.

The goal is to recognize businesses that demonstrate constant improvement in their environmental performance, a commitment to preserving the environment and social responsibility.

The goals of the project include strengthening environmental leadership, promoting the adoption of advanced standards of performance on the international level, implementing sustainable environmental practices and promoting social environmental responsibility.

Companies that are certified to have Level 2 Environmental Development (NDA2), which is the highest possible level, and that also recognize a commitment to environmental development will be eligible to participate; however, companies related to the hydrocarbon sector are disqualified.

Interested companies should present the required documentation between March 17 and April 21 to the offices of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Environmental Protection (Profepa), on Camino al Ajusco 200, colonia Jardines en la Montaña, Tlalpan, in Mexico City, or in the Special Prosecutor’s office in other states.

The prosecutor’s work group will evaluate the documentation and will release a list of businesses that fulfill the requirements to receive the recognition.

Profepa will release the list at the latest on May 27, 2016. The businesses that win the recognition will be notified directly and via the auditor’s internet page, http://www.profepa.gob.mx.

The businesses that receive the recognition will need to promote sustainable development in the business community, to maintain a certification process within the National Environmental Auditing Program, and to participate in the National Congress on Environmental Excellence, organized by Profepa.
