Guajardo also indicated that foreign investment in 2017 could reach 25 billion dollars depending on the bilateral renegotiation between Mexico and the U.S.

Economy Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo said that President-elect Donald Trump should have more respect for Toyota after Trump threatened to move his production from Mexico to the United States. Guajardo also said that foreign investment in 2017 could reach $25 billion depending on the bilateral renegotiation between Mexico and the U.S.

“A company like Toyota has 10 plants in the United States, 550 distributors and employs more than 130,000 Americans. If I were Mr. Trump, I would treat them with more respect,” said Guajardo.

“However, given the flows I have observed, I would expect that we could maintain an investment level of nearly $25 billion in 2017. A lot of what is finally announced and enacted will depend on the negotiation of a certain business relationship,” he said.
