Torture Victim Imprisoned for Weapons Charge

The woman who appeared in a video being tortured by an Army captain and a Federal Police officer has been identified as Elvira Santibáñez Margarito. Santibáñez is being held in the federal prison in Tepic, Nayarit, accused of carrying weapons.

Santibáñez is from Ajuchitlán del Progreso, Guerrero, and is accused of being a member of the Familia Michoacana cartel.

She was brought before a federal judge in Iguala after being tortured.
