Taxi drivers have impeded traffic around the Angel of Independence traffic circle, announced the Public Security Secretariat of Mexico City.

The gathering of taxi drivers has reduced Paseo de la Reforma to one lane from Río Danubio to Varsovia.

To avoid the zone, which has been blocked off by police, cars can detour through Circuito Interior, James Sullivan, Insurgentes, Chapultepec and Antonio Caso.

The taxi drivers, which plan to protest near the Interior Secretariat (Segob), ask for the elimination of private transportation services that work via mobile phone applications, like Uber.

They ask the Senate to legislate against the illegal operation of transportation services that use internet platforms. The taxi drivers say that these services do not abide by laws that regulate local businesses.
