The Communications and Transportation Secretariat (SCT) presented the program for digital connectivity which will provide the largest broadband service throughout the country at affordable prices. The program features infrastructure improvement of fixed and mobile communications both terrestrial and satellite.

The head of the SCT Gerardo Ruiz Esparza stated that the initial stage of the Shared Network will benefit 110 million people — 92 percent of Mexico’s population. Ruiz Esparza also said that Shared Network will be operational starting March 31, 2018.

Connected Mexico, the program that will replace eMexico, aims to provide 130,000 public spaces with free internet access but will require additional budget to move forward.

Ruiz Esparza said that they are looking for support from the private sector and state governments. He ruled out problems in the delivery of televisions in the analogue blackout and especially failures in the operation of the screens, as stated on the Federal Auditing Agency (ASF) 2015 issue of the Public Account Report.
