Riots at Chetumal Prison

Inmates set fire to sheets, mattresses and furniture

The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) said that riots broke out in the early hours of Tuesday at the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) in Chetumal, Quintana Roo.

Prisoners where trying to prevent the relocation of fellow inmates from the Cereso to another facility by burning sheets, mattresses and furniture.

The SSP said that the situation is now under control and that there was one injury registered.
