Elpidio Ramos Zárate was fatally shot while covering a CNTE roadblock in Oaxaca

Reporter Elpidio Ramos Zárate, also known by the pseudonym Guillermo Parie, was killed while covering a the education conflict in Juchitán, Oaxaca, in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

Ramos Zárate was a reporter for El Sur de Juchitán. Raúl Cano López, brother of the director of the Newspaper HECHOS, was also killed.

According to witnesses, Ramos Zárate was covering a roadblock by the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) when unknown subjects began to rob an Oxxo convenience store. Ramos Zárate tried to photograph the robbery, and the robbers fatally shot him. A representative of the El Sur de Juchitán affirmed that Ramos Zárate had recently been threatened because of his journalism.
