National president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI)  Enrique Ochoa Reza announced on Monday the presentation of an austerity bill which contemplates the reduction of 100 positions for plurinominal deputies and 32 senators.

Ochoa Reza stated that according to several polls, Mexican citizens agree on the reduction of these positions which would translate in budget savings of up to $2 billion pesos ($ 96.2 million).

The PRI leader said the bill will be proposed to all parties, and that it will be approved before the end of 2017 in order to come into effect before the legislative elections in 2018. Ochoa Reza also stated the need for a united national front to face the recent developments in the relation with the United States, which he said, goes beyond the border wall.
