Nayarit: Federal Forces and Criminals Engage in Shootout

The encounter resulted in 12 people killed, including Juan Francisco Patrón Sánchez, alleged leader of the organized crime cell “Beltrán Leyva”

The Navy Secretariat reported a shootout between members of the Federal Forces and alleged criminals in Tepic, Nayarit on Thursday night. The encounter resulted in 12 people killed – none of them members of the armed forces – including alleged leader of the “Beltrán Leyva”organized crime cell Juan Francisco Patrón Sánchez.

 

A statement issued by the Navy Secretariat informed that the shootout arose from a coordinated operation by the Federal Forces in pursuit of the alleged criminals who responded with high-caliber weapons. In accordance to Armed Forced procedures, the assault was quelled with dissuasive fire from a support helicopter in order to reduce civilian or military casualties.
