Interior Secretary Patricia Mercado Castro said that Duarte is under 24-hour surveillance

Governance Secretary Patricia Mercado Castro said that the government is taking every measure during the detention of former governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa, who’s currently being housed in the Reclusorio Norte prison.

Mercado Castro said that Duarte de Ochoa is under 24-hour surveillance and that a judge is expected to rule next Saturday on a request by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to transfer Duarte de Ochoa to a federal penitentiary.

The statements came during Mercado Castro’s visit to Mexico City’s Magdalena Contreras borough where she discussed the problem of informal street businesses, a problem Mercado Castro said will be difficult to tackle, especially in the borough of Cuauhtémoc where these types of businesses are most common.
