Former Veracruz Governor Returns to Mexico to Face Justice

The former governor will be transferred to the Men’s Northern Penitentiary, where the judge who issued the apprehension order against him awaits

Former Veracruz Gov. Javier Duarte de Ochoa landed on Mexico after being extradited from Guatemala to face charges for money laundering, embezzlement and organized crime.

Duarte de Ochoa was taken back to Mexico by agents of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) on a plane with the registry code XC-LNN. They landed on Mexico City’s International Airport at approximately 12:23 p.m.

The former governor will be transferred to the Men’s Northern Penitentiary, located in the Gustavo A. Madero borough and where the judge who issued the apprehension order against him awaits. There, Duarte de Ochoa will remain under the custody of PGR personnel at all times.
