An attack on a microbus left one person dead and eight injured in the Del Mar neighborhood of the Tláhuac borough in Mexico City Wednesday.

Mexico City police have opened an investigation into the crime.

The assault took place at the intersection of Turba and Langosta streets when two men entered the route 50 bus, which travels along Avenida Tláhuac to the Metro General Anaya station. With the help of two other men who were already on the bus, the robbers began to threaten passengers with firearms.

Rufino I., a 42-year-old soldier who was traveling on the bus, confronted the robbers with his own weapon. The robbers shot back at Rufino, wounding him with a shot to the neck, and also injured other passengers.

The driver of the microbus took the passengers to the Tláhuac Hospital, where one later died.

Meanwhile, residents of Tláhuac blocked traffic on Paso del Conejo and Avenida Tláhuac to protest insecurity.
