After two decades in existence, the Art Department at UAEM continues to grow

The Art Department at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) is currently working on creating a doctorate in Art and Culture Critique, aimed at people interested in having a creative experience in any branch of the arts, whether that be art, writing or cultural knowledge.

Janitzio Alatriste Tobilla, the director of the Art Department, said the doctorate degree would offer more options to art students with bachelors and masters degrees, who amount to almost 500 students.

Alastriste Tobilla said that the majority of degrees at this level are focused on art history or the investigation of an artistic phenomenon. However, UAEM’s proposed degree would be directed mainly to the creation of art.

Alatriste Tobilla said that after two decades of existence, the Art Department at UAEM continues to work and grow in enrollment and infrastructure. The department recently received a new building, which will house sculpture, carving and welding workshops, as well as an auditorium.
