The Zócalo International Book Fair and the Mutek electronic arts festival both close this weekend

THURSDAY

Mexico City’s Mutek, the international electronic music and arts festival founded in 2000 in Montreal, opened on Tuesday and continues through the weekend. On Thursday, Mutek offers free workshops and lectures at Universidad de la Comunicación, as well as an immersive audiovisual show at Teatro de la Ciudad and Play 2, a night of experimental electronic music featuring world-class Mexican and international producers including AAAA and Philip Gorbachev. FRIDAY

An exhibit of art by Víctor Fosado at Museo Carrillo Gil will be inaugurated on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The museum’s normal entry price is 45 pesos, but entrance to the inauguration is free.

SATURDAY

The fifth concert in the University Contemporary Art Museum (MUAC) Contemporary Music Cycle will take place Saturday with a performance by Ensamble Liminar of works by Horațiu Rădulescu, James Tenney and Iannis Xenakis. The concert costs 50 pesos and will be held at 12:30 p.m. in MUAC’s agora.

The Zócalo International Book Fair continues on Saturday with discounts on new books and dozens of book presentations, lectures, readings and concerts. Events at the fair’s Foro Bertolt Brecht on Saturday include a presentation of Guadalupe Loaeza’s new book “Oaxaca de mis amores.” A full schedule of events can be found here.

SUNDAY

On Sunday, the Bellas Artes Compañía Nacional de Ópera will perform Johannes Brahms’ Requiem. Soloists will be soprano Lucía Salas and baritone Josué Cerón. The concert will take place at 6 p.m. at Cenart’s Auditorio Blas Galindo. Entrance is free, but make sure you get there early because space is limited.
